Today the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan conducted an expanded meeting of the board on the theme: "The results of the work of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan in 2017 and tasks for 2018". Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Pesoshin Aleksey Valerievich; Deputy Head of the Department of Forestry in the Privolzhsky Federal District - Kovalev Sergey Nikolayevich; Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan - Nazirov Almas Aminovich; heads and representatives of federal authorities, territorial bodies of executive power; representatives of ministries and departments; employees of the Office of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan participated in the meeting.

Aleksey Pesoshin during his speech noted that in 2017, within the framework of the Year of Ecology, special attention was given to reforestation works on the territory of the republic: totally, new forests were planted on the area of about 4,000 hectares (1,831 hectares were planted in the forest fund, 2,071 hectares on agricultural lands). For these purposes, 16 million pieces of planting material were used.

"Reforestation is one of the most important areas of the Ministry's work. For many years the foresters has the task to improve the quality, species composition and increase the productivity of forests, "- said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan.

In his introduction, the minister said that in Tatarstan as a whole reforestation works were carried out on the area of 2,815 hectares. Artificial reforestation was 12.5% more than in 2016. Promotion of natural regeneration of the forest was carried out on the area of 950 hectares, the fulfillment of the plan was 100%. More than 10 thousand kg of seeds of the main forest-forming species were harvested, including 10,395 hectares were collected.

The volume of reforestation increased by 27% compared to 2016, which is due to the fact that in the Year of Ecology, the areas under planting and the promotion of natural regeneration of forests were increased.

The minister also noted the positive dynamics of forest fire prevention in the Republic of Tatarstan for 7 years. At the same time, he stressed that over the past 7 years there have been significant climate changes and an increase of natural disasters, which negatively affected the condition of the Tatarstan forests. In the reporting period, foresters carried out forest pathological survey on the area of 70 thousand hectares.

It should be noted that earlier the President of Russia repeatedly noted the importance of forest protection, development of forestry and timber industry. The Head of the State repeatedly noted the importance of preserving and increasing forest areas, protecting it from illegal logging, and developing the scientific potential of the forest industry. Preservation, protection and reproduction of forests are of key importance. Russia is the largest forest power. We can say that this is a key factor in maintaining the ecological balance on the planet. Forest needs to be

saved from illegal logging. It is necessary to eliminate the imbalance between forestry and the timber industry. We are also obliged to achieve the investment attractiveness of the forest complex," he said.

Unauthorized occupation of forest areas remains as urgent issue. In 2017, plans were prepared and 473 forest plots were registered in the State Forest Register. In the republic, 19.9% of forest land is recorded in the cadastral register. Currently, cadastral work on the lands of the forest fund is carried out in the territory of 8 forest areas. At the moment, the ministry has submitted an application to include in the Rosleskhoz Plan for 2018 establishment of borders of 22 forest districts of the republic.
