On October 9-13, 2017 in Warsaw (the Republic of Poland), the Joint Session of the Committee on Forests and Forestry of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the European Commission on Forestry of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations was held.
The motto of the session "Forests are our common good" brought together representatives of relevant state authorities, science, business and non-governmental institutions from more than 40 states.
The experts reviewed the results of joint work on forest-related topics held in 2016-2017 in the Pan-European space, as well as in the Central Asia and Caucasus region.
Participants of the session discussed current projects, agreed on recommendations for activities in 2018-2019.
Within the framework of the session, the UNECE/FAO Integrated Program of Work on Forests for 2018-2021 was prepared and approved. This program will lay the foundations for joint activities of states, in particular related to analytical research, research projects, work on capacity building and exchange of experience in sustainable forest management, preparation of long-term strategies for forestry development, development of criteria and indicators for assessing the forests state in the region.
