Kazan State Agrarian University celebrates International Day of Forests
Today, a solemn meeting devoted to the International Day of Forests was held at the Kazan State Agrarian University. The event was attended by the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan - Ravil Kuzyurov, the Head of Sabinskiy municipal district - Rais Minnikhanov, the Rector of the KSAU - Airat Valiyev, the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan - Egor Tarnavsky, the Head of the Department for Use of Mineral Resources, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan - Marat Faskhutdinov, teachers, students and graduates of the Faculty of Forestry and Ecology of KSAU, Head-Foresters of forest districts and Directors of forestry enterprises of the republic.
Before the meeting, the Head of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan - Ravil Kuzyurov, familiarized himself with the exhibition of school forest districts and examined the museum of the Kazan State Agrarian University.
The solemn meeting was opened by Airat Valiyev. “Certainly, the forest is national wealth, he noted. - Our university prepares specialists in forestry of a wide profile. We keep in touch with SPO institutions, most graduates of Lubyanskiy Forestry Engineering College decide to continue studying with us”.
Further, the report was made by the Minister Ravil Kuzyurov. In his speech, he acquainted those present with the history and current state of the forestry sector of the Republic of Tatarstan.
“Currently, forests occupy 17.5% of the territory of the republic. They are unevenly distributed. So, for example, the share of forests exceeds 40% in Nurlatsky district and as for Drozhzhanovskiy and Chistopolskiy districts there are practically no forests, - noted Ravil Kuzyurov. - In order to increase forest cover by one percent, it is necessary to plant new forest stands on 65 thousand hectares. Of course, this is a large area and scope of work. It takes decades, centuries”.
The Minister said that there is a permanent seed forest base and nurseries in Tatarstan. Along with this, in 2012, the Forest Selection and Seed Center of the Republic of Tatarstan has been operating, where 12 million planting material with a closed root system is grown annually.
Ravil Kuzyurov also focused on the issues of preparation for the fire hazard season in forests, implementation of sanitary and recreational activities and research work.
“Forests must exist in order for man himself to exist, for the sake of preserving the great wealth of the animal and plant world for the next generations of our planet. I hope that at the end of time we will meet with you again and will not talk as a lecturer with the audience, but as colleagues who are doing the same thing for the benefit of the prosperity of our forests”, the Minister concluded, addressing the university students.
Afterwards, Rais Minnikhanov congratulated the participants on the holiday. “Forests are one of the significant natural resources of our country. They play a big role in economic development and environmental improvement. Our common goal is to preserve the forest for future generations”, he said.
Then, a presentation on topic “The role of forests and forest science in the life of society” was made by the Professor of the Department of Forestry and Forest Crops of the Faculty of Forestry of KSAU - Kharis Musin. He focused on importance of forest resources, features of their use and reproduction.
Also Adelina Terentyeva, a student of the Faculty of Forestry and Ecology of the KSAU, Dmitry Terentyev, Director of the School Forestry of Municipal Budgetary Educational Institution “Runginskaya Secondary General Education School”, Gulnara Mukhametkhanova, Head-Forester of the State Public Institution of the Republic of Tatarstan, and Rezeda Gainetdinova, Head of Municipal Autonomous Pre-school Education Institution “Kindergarten No. 65” in Kazan made reports at the meeting.
Dmitry Terentyev spoke about school forestry and the results of the first open competition “Let's save the forests of the Volga region!”, Gulnara Mukhametkhanova spoke about the activities of the SPI of RT “Bugulminskiy Forest District”, vocational guidance, plans for the development of school forestry “Green patrol” of MBEI “Yutazinskaya Secondary General Education School” and the newly created association on the basis of MBEI "Secondary General Education School No. 5" of Bugulma town.
At the end of the meeting the award ceremony took place. Lyudmila Pukhacheva, Dean of the Faculty of Forestry and Ecology of KSAU, and Ilnur Khusnutdinov, a student of the 462nd group, were encouraged by the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan. Awards were presented by the Head of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ravil Kuzyurov.
