The column “Veterans of the forest industry” as part of celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic foundation continues. Today, its hero is a participant in the Great Patriotic War, Prokopyev Agafon Fedorovich.
Agafon Prokopyev was born on December 18, 1926 in the Ilyutkino village of the Chistopol canton of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (now the Nurlatskiy municipal district of the Republic of Tatarstan). After graduating from secondary school, he entered the Aksubayevo Pedagogical College. Young Agafon Prokopyev could not graduate from college - on November 15, 1943 he was called up to the ranks of the Red Army. After the formation of the train at the Nurlat station, the draftees were sent to the Nikolskaya station in the Saratov region, and from there - to the Leningrad Front to defend the city of Leningrad. Agafon Fedorovich participated in lifting of blockade of Leningrad, after its lifting the regiment was disbanded.
Agafon Prokopyev continued his military service as part of the communications battalion, whose task was to restore communications in the liberated territory. He met Victory near the city of Vyborg. After the war he remained in Leningrad, served in the Academy of Communications, where he lectured.
In January 1950, Agafon Prokopyev was demobilized and returned to his homeland. Upon arrival, he was sent to the October timber industry enterprise. There he met his betrothed Maria Grigoryevna, with whom they subsequently raised three daughters. In the timber industry, Agafon Fedorovich worked for 14 years as a radio technician in a communications center.
In 1964, Agafon Prokopyev graduated from accounting courses. After that he worked as an accountant in logging centers in the Mokhovoye and Mamykovo villages, as well as in the Chulpanovskiy forest district of the Oktyabrskiy timber industry enterprise. In 1986 he went on a well-deserved rest.
For conscientious work over many years, Agafon Fedorovich was awarded the honorary title “Veteran of Labor”, was awarded the badges “Excellent Signal Operator”, “Excellent in Forestry of the USSR”, as well as the medal “For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.”, Anniversary medals “70 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR”, ‘70 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” and etc.
Currently, Agafon Prokopyev lives in Ulyanovsk, Ulyanovsk Region, surrounded by relatives and friends.
