The Russian Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has opened a call for applications for the “Green Project of the Year – 2021” award, which seeks and awards best practices and initiatives in sustainable development related to forests in Russia.

The competition accepts projects that have made a positive practical contribution to reducing the negative human impact on nature, preserving Russia's forest resources and developing responsible forest management, which have had a positive impact on the economy, human well-being, improving working conditions for workers, and increasing the environmental awareness of Russians about ways of caring for forests.

Partnership projects with NGOs, scientific and educational organizations for the conservation, restoration and rational use of forests, charitable and volunteer projects in the forest sector can also become nominees for the award.

Recall that, starting in 2020, the Green Project of the Year award has united 88 projects from 61 organizations from 28 regions of Russia. Among the participants last year were representatives of government bodies, public organizations, research institutes, small and large Russian and international companies.

This year, the organizers of the award, FSC Russia, have expanded the range of topics and potential participants in the award. Some projects-nominees, which will be devoted to forest management practices, can also be presented in the international database “Practices of Responsible Forest Management”, which is being developed by WWF Russia in cooperation with FSC Russia within the Boreal Forest Platform.

The call for applications for the award ends on June 30, 2021. More details can be found here: www.fsc.ru.
