In the laboratory of the educational and experimental Sabinsky forestry enterprise, work continues on the cultivation of the most valuable specimens of the main forest-forming species
Employees of the laboratory of microclonal vegetative reproduction of the State Budgetary Institution of the Republic of Tatarstan “Educational and Experimental Sabinsky Forestry” are conducting work on the examination of the forests of the Republic of Tatarstan and the selection of plus trees and plantations. “Plus trees are trees that are significantly superior in one or a set of economically valuable traits and properties to the surrounding trees of the same age, growing under the same conditions. Such valuable specimens can become the basis for creating a collection of in vitro clones,” said Nail Khanov, deputy head of the laboratory. “In general, the purpose of such studies is to improve the species composition and increase the productivity of forest plantations in the republic.”
“Another area of our work is the in vitro reproduction of clones of triploid aspen, which, unlike ordinary aspen, is highly resistant to fungal diseases, grows rapidly, and is less dependent on growing conditions. Since the beginning of the year, 500,000 in vitro clones have been created,” added Nail Khanov. “Also, soon we plan to start a detailed survey of the state of aspen plantations on the territory of the forest fund of Aksubaevsky, Aznakaevsky, and Nurlatsky forestries. This work is envisaged in the framework of the implementation of the Tatarstan-German research project “Development of the concept of sustainable forestry in aspen plantations and their use in the Republic of Tatarstan “ASTAT”.
