The IV All-Russian Ecological Film Festival “Meridian of Hope” established in 2011 by the Federal Service for Supervision of Nature Resources and the Filmmaking Union of St. Petersburg will be held from April 21 until April 24 in St. Petersburg. The event is aimed at attraction of citizens’ attention to the problems of preservation of favorable environment, unification of national film-makers creating environment-oriented films, promotion of ecological mindset and ecological culture.
In the framework of the film festival it is planned to hold the contest of films for children and young people, as well as the Second Interregional Research and Practice Conference.
Film-makers, TV reporters, children and young people creating environment-oriented films and videos will be invited to participate in the contest. The application form and contest rules are available at:

On February 2, 1971 the Convention on swamplands of international importance was adopted and it is known as the Ramsar Convention (it was adopted in Ramsar, Iran). The World Day of swamplands is celebrated annually in honor of this day.
Experts of the reserve solemnly met participants of the “Volga-Quest” route that took course along historical transport ways of delivery of cargoes and products along the Volga river extending for 640 km.
Seven participants in the dog sled competitions started in Tolyatti on January 25. Only Sylvia Footvaengler (Germany), who started first, could reach Bolgar. The other participants withdrew from the competition due to various reasons. It was hard both for dog-drivers and dogs to withstand cross wind when it’s 37 degrees below zero.
After short-term camping, sportsmen continued to move along the intended route by cars.
The Minister for Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Sergey Donskoy, tested the information portal on accounting of prepared wood and deals therewith, created by the experts of the Federal Forestry Agency. According to him, the algorithm of work of the information portal is simple and clear.

The Minister, Nail Magdeev, met with the national coordinator of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Russia, Boris Melnichuk.
The project envisaging holding of the events on forest cultivation on the territories of municipal districts of the Republic located in water protection areas of Nizhnekamsk and Kuybyshev reservoirs, as well as on the banks of Vyatka and Sviaga rivers, was discussed during the meeting. Anti-erosion protective forest plantations newly planted on the coastal protective belts will reliably protect the shores from erosion promoting formation of the ecosystem of the coastal area around water bodies.
Meetings of the Head of Agryz municipal district V. Makarov and R. Makhmutov with workers’ associations and citizens will be held for two days in Kryndinsky and Sarsakomginsky rural villages with regard to the results of district activity in 2013.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Head of the Federal Forestry Agency, V. Lebedev, will participate in the on-site meeting regarding “Efficiency of fulfillment of delegated powers in the field of forest relations by the entities of the Volga Federal District: the results of 2013 and the tasks for 2014”.
The program of the meeting envisages the report of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, Nail Magdeev, on the “Use of low-grade wood in the Republic of Tatarstan”.
The Federal Law No. 415-FZ “On making amendments to the Forest Code of the Russian Federation and the Code of the Russian Federation on administrative violations” comes into force as of February 1, 2014.

A meeting with participation of heads-foresters and directors of subordinate establishments was held by the Minister, Nail Magdeev. At present, more than 53 thousand cubic meters of wood, prepared by small complex brigades at the forestries of the Republic, have been delivered to the sites of the plant on processing of soft-wooded broadcasting “Kastamonu Entegre” at the Special economic zone “Alabuga”.
