A rare visitor in GPKZ "Kichko-Tan"

Senior researchers of the Volga-Kama Biosphere Reserve Alexei Pavlov and Anwar Ayupov during his work in the territory of the State Nature Reserve "Kichko-Tang" was first recorded habitat of the Great Cormorant - rarely seen species of birds listed in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation.

For the record:

Cormorant belongs to the order Pelecaniformes, family Baklanov. It lives on all continents except South America. It nests in colonies. Adult birds all black with a green tinge, bare skin "face" yellowish. There are many subtypes of differing color. Cormorant flies fast, but can only take off from the water after takeoff. On the territory of Russia lives six species of cormorants. Two of them are listed as endangered. Great Cormorant - the largest of living in our country. European bird population counts from 850,000 to 1.15 million individuals.
