During the summer internship, students visited the cultural and business center “Lesnoy mir” (Forest world), the head office of the Ministry of forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan. Students met Nikolay Zolotov, the executive officer, and Ildar Khalilov, the supervisor of forest regeneration and reforestation department. Together with the forestry agency’s specialists, the students visited the nature-sanctuary of regional significance “Golubye ozera” (Blue lakes) and the suburban forestries. This is what a student of Saint-Petersburg state forest engineering university named after S.M. Kirov, Alexander Chibidin, writes in his notes:
“Matushkinskoe forestry. Visiting the development and production object: selective salvage felling on the territory of compartment 56.
The plot (#1) on compartment 56 is interesting because of the trees’ location in the area (as a group). The felling was made to create the conditions for natural regeneration of pine-trees.
Iske-Kazanskoe divisional forestry occupies the area of 7139 hectares. There is a fire-chemical station of type III. In this connection, a tour of the forestry included the facilities related to fire fighting. After that, we went to take a look at the new fire lines (the analysis of the organization practices: well-organized and timely held works for creating the fire lines near the populated areas, which are situated at the boundary of forests and farmlands, allow us to minimize the risk of fire spread on the residential estates).
Stolbishenskoe divisional forestry. Visiting the development and production facility – compartment 96 (former farmland areas), where in 1976 the pine forestry crops were planted.
Visiting the bee yard (the Stolbishenskoe forestry’s facility) – the final destination of the fieldwork. I’ve never tried such delicious honey”.
