Inspectors of Baltasinsky Nature Sanctuary together with the children of Nurminskaya Secondary School of Baltasinsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan installed the bird feeders and feed the birds. The aim of the event was to attract schoolchildren to the protection of the environment, respect for wildlife and cultivate in them love of work. Totally, the pupils of primary school made 28 bird feeders.
Birds are of great assistance in the fight against harmful insects. A significant number of them die in rough weather during migration, severe frosts and snowfalls due to lack of feed. So we invite all Tatarstan residents to join a tradition for feeding birds in winter.
On January 16, 2017 the Order of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation No.480 “On Approval of the Procedure for the Conducting of the Forest Pathology Surveys and Forms of Forest Pathology Survey Report” has been published.
The Order establishes a new procedure for conducting of forest pathology surveys and approves the form of Forest Pathology Survey Report.
The procedure for conducting of forest pathology surveys divides forest pathology surveys into two types: visual forest pathology survey and instrumental forest pathology survey.
The visual method allows the use of ground-based or remote methods of survey, including the Earth surface remote sensing techniques – using aircrafts, pilotless planes and interpretation of spacecraft data, the instrumental one uses only the actual ground instrumental methods of survey.
The instrumental method is used to clarify the boundaries and areas of damaged forest areas.
The document introduces the minimum areas of forest pathology allotments, which may differ from the forest sub-compartments. For the zone of high forest pathology threat this area is 0.1 hectares, for the medium – 0.5 hectares, and for low one is 1.0 hectares.
For forests damaged by fires the minimum periods of visual forest pathology surveys are introduced: upon creeping fire of high and medium intensity – 1.5-2 months, low intensity – 2-2.5 months. For crowning and underground fires the survey periods are not limited.
An important innovation of the document was the enhancing of the personal responsibility of the performer of the forest pathology survey works – previously the Forest Pathology Survey Report was signed by the commission, and now – by the direct executor singularly.
The document is registered in the Ministry of Justice of Russia on 13.01.2017 under the number 45200.

In Karaduganskaya Secondary School on January 12, 2017 the staff of Baltasinsky Nature Sanctuary gave an open lesson devoted to the Year of Specially Protected Nature Reservations. During the event, the schoolchildren (winners of the campaign “March of Parks 2016”) have been given gifts of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The All-Russian Day of Nature Reserves and National Parks is a relatively young date in the calendar environmentalists. It has been celebrated since 1997. On that particular year, Biodiversity Conservation Center and World Wildlife Fund put forward an initiative to annually celebrate in the Russian Federation the Day of Nature Reserves and National Parks. There is good reason for choosing the date of January 11; on this day in 1916 the first national nature reserve – Barguzinsky – was established in Russia. Within its territory there is a wonderful place – the Valley of Geysers.
By 2020, in Russia there will be 11 new nature reserves, 20 national parks and 3 federal sanctuaries.
As of today, in the Republic of Tatarstan there are 174 specially protected natural reservations, the total area of which is 168.85 thousand hectares. Thus, the proportion of lands dedicated to the specially protected natural reservations in the Republic of Tatarstan is 2.48% of the total area of the Republic. 25 specially protected natural reservations are classified as “sanctuary”, 11 of them have their own administration. In addition, in the Republic of Tatarstan there are 144 monuments of nature.
On specially protected natural reservations the unique landscapes and the diversity of fauna and flora are preserved in their original form, which helps to save from extermination a variety of rare species of animals, some of which exist today only in nature reserves, sanctuaries and monuments of nature.
In Leskhozskaya Secondary School of the Arsky Municipal District the results of the campaign “Forest Crop” have been summed up. The event to collect cones of conifers and harvesting seeds for the restoration of future forests was organized by the experts of Arsky Forest Establishment with the Council of the school forestry unit. Following the results of the campaign, 1349 kg of pine cones and spruce have been gathered. The most active in gathering the forest crop were the pupils of the 10, 6, 7, 4, and 8 grades. “An exceptionally fruitful year turned out to be in our forests, it would be inexcusable to use the generous gift of nature for restocking the conifer seeds. The coniferous forests are being cut down at a fast pace, the natural increase is not enough to compensate for losses, that’s why the seed stock is required for reproduction,” said the head of the school forestry unit Gaynanova F.N. The young foresters have passed the gathered cones to the Surnarskoye District Forestry.
