Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan summed up the work on cultivation of planting material in nurseries

Currently there are 50 forest nurseries and the Forest Selection and Seed Center of Sabinskiy forestry enterprise in the Republic of Tatarstan. As the press service of the Ministry has already informed, according to the results of 2018, over 30 million pieces of standard planting material were grown in nurseries in the region. For comparison, 27.7 million pieces were grown in 2017, and 28.5 million pieces - in 2016.

Saplings and seedlings grown this year by foresters of the republic are represented by pine ordinary - 11.8 million pieces, European spruce - 6.6 million pieces, Siberian larch - 5.1 million pieces, pedunculate oak - 1 million pieces, hanging birch - 3 million pieces and other breeds - 2.8 million pieces. 5 million pieces of pine, 2.7 million pieces of Spruce trees, 900 thousand pieces of larch, 2.7 million pieces of birch and 700 thousand pieces of acacia were grown in the selection center. In 2018, 975 thousand pieces of planting material with improved hereditary properties were raised in nurseries in Kaibitskiy, Prigorodnyi and Sabinskiy forestry enterprises.

As Ravil Kuzyurov, Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, commented: “The key to obtaining quality planting material is availability of a good forest nursery. Therefore, one of the main tasks of foresters in Tatarstan is to carefully take care of forest nurseries in order to provide the republic and other regions of Russia with quality planting material. Especially in recent times, market economy trends have favored the cultivation of planting material”.

Foresters of the republic today have everything they need to continue successful cooperation in supplying of planting material. There is at least one permanent forest nursery practically in each forestry enterprise, and in some two or more. New objects are under construction. There are plans for 2019 to increase the range of competitive grown trees and shrubs.
