On December 5, Russia celebrated Volunteer Day. In addition, 2018 was declared the Year of Volunteer by the President of Russia, in recognition of the merits and further development of the volunteer movement in the life of society and the state.
Volunteers work for the good of society, without asking for anything in return, and this is one of the few reasons why they have been awarded with their own holiday. The World Volunteers Declaration states that volunteers have the right to give their time, energy and talent to collective and individual shares, without expecting rewards.
Within the framework of the Year of Volunteer, the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan held republican environmental campaigns “Forest Planting Day” and “Forest Week”, in which more than 50 thousand residents of the republic took part. They planted 3.8 million pieces of planting material on the area of about 915 hectares. In addition, the forest fund was cleared of household garbage on the area of 274 hectares.
More than 7 thousand people participated in another environmental campaign - “Clean Forests of Tatarstan”. The cleaning was carried out around cities and towns, along highways and motorways of federal and regional importance; municipal solid waste, dead wood and felled trees in the amount of 3.7 thousand cubic meters were collected and removed.
