The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan reminds Tatarstan residents how not to get lost in forests

25 July 2019, Thursday

In July of this year, the regional center of dispatching control of the State Budgetary Institution of the Republic of Tatarstan “Forest Fire Center” received 13 complaints from citizens with the message “Lost in the forest” through the “112” system. All of them were safely removed from the forest with the help of local foresters and emergency workers.

In order not to get lost in forests, you must follow some rules:

- before going into the forest, carefully study the weather forecast for the coming days, warn family and friends about the place where you are going and when you are going to return and take with you everything you need: a compass, a mobile phone with a charged battery, matches, a knife, some snack (nuts, dried fruit, water), rope and insect repellents;

- be sure to wear a hat, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, comfortable shoes or rubber boots. The clothes should be bright so that in case of searches you could be easily noticed in the forest;

- if you come to the forest by car, leave the radio tape recorder turned on and do not go to places where no music can be heard;

- before entering the forest, pay attention to the main landmarks: roads, power lines, settlements, rivers, streams;

- while moving through the forest note the landmarks from time to time: quarter pillars, cobblestones, trees of unusual shapes, streams, pits.

If you are still lost, try to contact the rescue service by phone 112. Step by step, remember where and how you went, listen carefully to the sounds. If you have heard sounds that indicate the proximity of people, do not rush to go on them, check the direction several times.

- stay in place for an hour. This will allow satellites to find you;

- make several attempts to move in different directions. Drive in one direction for about 15 minutes. Did not notice familiar objects - go back to the starting point;

- try to find a high place nearby or climb a tree, perhaps from a height you will see the road;

- take care of your feet! Avoid windbreaks, if you find a forest path, an opening, do not move away from it.
