Selection of sites for laying water-protection forest stands along the Volga and Kama rivers continues in the Republic of Tatarstan. It is expected that these works will be carried out in order to solve the problem of diffuse pollution within the framework of the federal project “Improvement of the Volga”.
Diffuse pollution of the Volga and Kama rivers is a long-standing problem. In the spring, surface water flows annually into the main rivers, not only soil particles, but also the chemical elements used in agriculture and solid household waste get there. Creation of a network of water-protection forest stands will help to prevent their entry into the water surface and increase groundwater.
According to the project, it is planned to lay down water-protection forest stands on the lands of the forest fund and other categories with their subsequent inclusion in the lands of the forest fund. To date, in the republic, land plots with a total area of over 3 thousand hectares have been selected for inclusion in the project.
