Also Timur Galiyev, the Head of the Forest Reproduction and Afforestation Department made a report at the meeting. In his speech, he introduced the participants to the forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, the results of reforestation and afforestation this year and the activities of the Forest Selection and Seed Center of the Republic of Tatarstan. In particular, Timur Galiyev said that the FSSC of RT is the largest automated nursery in Europe, equipped with modern equipment, where planting material with a closed root system is grown. The production capacity of the center is 12 million seedlings with closed root system per year. FSSC covers an area of 11.3 hectares, on which there are 4 greenhouses, 13 growing fields, a cooling and storage building for seedlings, 2 warehouses, etc.
Timur Galiyev elaborated on the advantages of using planting stock with closed root system. “The most important of them, of course, is to reduce the time for growing seedlings by 3 times. If on the open ground planting material is grown on average 2-3 years, then in FSSC - during one growing season, said the speaker. - The second is the high survival rate of plants. When we plant planting material with an open root system, it is almost always necessary to conduct autumn supplement work. In turn, seedlings with a closed root system have a survival rate close to 100%”.
Timur Galiyev also identified such positive aspects as elimination of the risk of infection of the cultivated planting material with infectious diseases, possibility of planting it throughout the growing season, minimizing the cost of using equipment and fuels and lubricants, etc.
After the meeting, its participants took part in the final stage of the “Save the Forest” reforestation campaign. Planting seedlings was organized in the square named after Yu.A. Gagarin.
Tomorrow, on October 31, a field seminar is planned on the territory of the Novosergievskiy forest district. Within its framework, specialists will inspect the areas of forest crops and the Platovskaya forest dacha (genetic reserve of artificial origin).
