27 January 2020, Monday

Winter 2019-2020 was marked for the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation by abnormally warm weather. So, in December and January, warm weather, precipitation and lack of snow were observed in Tatarstan. These factors can affect the increase in the number of stem, needles and leaf-eating forest pests.

Part of the stem pests goes into the litter for wintering, the other remains on the trunk under the bark of trees. In cold winters, part of forest pests freezes, leading to reduction of chances of outbreaks of mass reproduction.

In 2020, the greatest threat will be posed by foci of coniferous and leaf-eating pests such as unpaired silkworm, nun silkworm, and green oak leaflet. The number of stem pests - the bark beetle typograph and the Ussuri polygraph may also increase.

In this regard, the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Federal Forestry Agency “Roslesozashchita” branch - the Forest Protection Center of the Republic of Tatarstan will take measures to protect and conserve forests. An inventory of foci of pests (accounting for the number of forest pests) and a set of forestry activities aimed at maintaining the positive dynamics of sanitary and forest pathological situation in the Republic of Tatarstan are planned.
