Yesterday, on March 3, a delegation of the Dresden University of Technology (Federal Republic of Germany) arrived in the Republic of Tatarstan on a working visit. Today, the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ravil Kuzyurov met with the delegation of the university, headed by Professor Jürgen Prech. The meeting, held at the Ministry, was attended by Deputy Minister Rais Gumerov, employees of the Ministry, Acting Director of the VNIILM East European Forest Experimental Station branch Fedor Ilyin, Director of the Sabinskiy Les OOO Aleksei Petrov, Chairman of the Public Council of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ilgiz Zaripov; from University: Professors Albrecht Bemmann, Wolfram Schiding, Vladimir Petrov, Dr. Eckhard Auch , Anna Moosmann et al.
Opening the meeting, the Head of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ravil Kuzyurov noted that the cooperation of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan with the Dresden University of Technology had been ongoing since 2013. During this period, two joint research projects “Creation and Use of Forest Plantations in the Republic of Tatarstan “LesPlan” and “Optimization of Mixed Plantations of Pedunculate Oak and small-leaved Linden in the Republic of Tatarstan “OMSK” were successfully implemented.
“Today the Republic of Tatarstan needs to improve the management of the forest sector, introduce innovations and technologies into the industry, Ravil Kuzyurov emphasized. “I sincerely hope that our new joint Tatarstan-German project will be successfully implemented”.
Professor Jürgen Prech thanked those present for the warm welcome and briefly talked about the history of the Dresden University of Technology. So, the university was founded in 1828 and is one of the oldest technological universities in Germany. “After the war, in 1946, the Department of Forestry was created, which is now called the Institute of International Forest Management and Forestry, he said. - We are trying to cooperate with representatives of the forestry industry of various countries in order to exchange experiences and scientific developments”.
Dr. Eckhardt Auh presented a new joint research project “Development of the Concept of Sustainable Forestry in Aspen Stands and Their Use in the Republic of Tatarstan “ASTAT”. He spoke about the goals, objectives and stages of the project.
Ramil Gilmanshin, a Leading Consultant of the Department of the State Forest Register, Forest Use and Forest Management of the Ministry, made a report on the status of aspen stands in the forest fund of the Republic of Tatarstan. In particular, he said that currently the total area of aspen stands in the republic was 236 thousand hectares, the timber stock - more than 41.7 million cubic meters. At the same time, the stock of wood in maturity and over-maturity stands reaches 28 million cubic meters. “Due to a sharp decrease in clear-cutting, an accumulation of maturity and over-maturity stands occurs. Over the past 15 years, their area has increased from 45.1 to 122.6 thousand hectares. The main diseases of aspen are core rot caused by a false aspen tinder fungus and rot caused by honey agaric. Accelerated defeat of trees with aspen tinder begins from 30-40 years, due to which the marketability of stands is sharply reduced”, added Ramil Gilmanshin.
Then a discussion and exchange of views on implementation of project “Development of the Concept of Sustainable Forestry in Aspen Stands and Their Use in the Republic of Tatarstan “ASTAT” took place. The meeting participants discussed issues of developing a set of forestry measures for growing aspen stands, caring for them, increasing their productivity, the possibility of organizing aspen processing, etc.
It is worth noting that today the employees of the Dresden University of Technology will also visit the Alekseyevskiy and Nurlatskiy municipal districts, where they will assess the condition of aspen plantations in the forest fund of the Bilyarskiy and Nurlatskiy forest districts. Tomorrow, on March 5, university representatives will familiarize themselves with the work of the Forest Selection and Seed Center of the Republic of Tatarstan.
