Employees of the Federal Budgetary Institution “Roslesozashchita” branch - “Forest Protection Center of the Republic of Tatarstan”, within the framework of the state task, began selective monitoring of pest populations using pheromone traps.

Pheromone traps are installed on the territory of the forest fund of the Lubyanskiy forest district on three routes with a total length of 7 km. The routes were selected in advance and located in weakened forest areas corresponding in their conditions to the preferred habitats of the eight-toothed bark beetle - in spruce stands from 50-60 years and older, I-II classes of bonitet, moderate illumination and humidity.

Pheromone traps are hung in the forest in the spring 1-1.5 weeks before the start of the summer and removed a week after its completion. They are placed on the branches of dead trees at a height of 1.3-1.5 meters from the ground. Pheromone traps are placed within dispensers, equipped with an attractive substance - pheromone. Dispensers emit pheromone components carried by the movement of air.

Results of observations of the eight-toothed bark beetle will be used to assess the forest pathological situation, make forecasts of development of the population and the threat of forest damage and recommendations on forest protection measures.
