The service for monitoring and assessing the state of the forest fund of Innopolis University won the “Green Project of the Year” award. The project took second place in the economic category, losing only to the IKEA furniture collection service.
The service for monitoring and assessing the state of the forest fund was developed within the framework of the Aeronet roadmap projects by the Innogeotech company, created by the Innopolis University together with the Russian venture company. Now the university under the state contract provides monitoring of forest changes for all forest districts of Tatarstan. The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan has access to operative and up-to-date information on changes in forests based on the processing of Earth remote sensing data. On the territory of the republic, 3,094 forest management plates were also scanned, 18,834 objects with the boundaries of the plots were digitized, and with the help of the service, an analysis of the forest resources was carried out on the territory of 31 forestry with a total area of 1,235,993 hectares, according to space images, 1,626 reforestation objects and 84 objects with forest pathology.
The Green Project of the Year award is initiated by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC Russia). It is awarded for successful projects in the field of environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management in the Russian Federation. This year, the best projects were selected by a jury of 16 experts from non-profit organizations, research community, business and the media. They identified winners in three nominations from 88 projects from 61 organizations.
