The Center for Forest Protection of the Republic of Tatarstan summed up the results of the work performed in 2020 to check the quality of seeds of forest plants and standard planting material
At the branch of FBU “Roslesozashchita” “Center for Forest Protection of the Republic of Tatarstan” summed up the results of the work performed in 2020 to check the quality of seeds of forest plants and standard planting material.
So, in total, experts examined 253 lots of seeds. Of these freshly harvested seeds, 147 batches with a total weight of 24.2 thousand kg were tested (9.8% of the total volume of harvested seeds in the Russian Federation). The analysis showed that their quality is distributed as follows: the seeds of the 1st quality class accounted for 9.9% (2.4 thousand kg), the 2nd quality class ‒ 78.5% (19 thousand kg), the 3rd ‒ 11.6% (2.8 thousand kg). The stored seeds of forest plants were examined by 75 lots with a total weight of 786 kg (seeds of the 1st quality class ‒ 44% (346 kg), the 2nd quality class ‒ 33.9% (266 kg), the 3rd ‒ 19.2% (150.5 kg), substandard ‒ 2.9% (23 kg)).
In addition, the employees of the branch assessed the characteristics of the planting material used in the reproduction of forests according to the indicators established by national standards in the field of forest seed production and reforestation rules. In total, 44 consignments of planting material were checked in 7 nurseries and the Forest Seed Breeding Center of the Republic of Tatarstan. The condition of the seedlings and seedlings was assessed as good.
