The event was moderated by the rector of KSAU Airat Valiev.

The meeting was opened by the performance of the pupils of the school forestry “Heirs of nature” MBOU “Leskhoz secondary school” of the Arsky region. The schoolchildren told those present about the role of forests in nature and human life, the activities of the association and the ongoing nature conservation actions.

Afterwards, the head of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ravil Kuzyurov made a presentation on the topic “Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan: from the origins to the present”. In the course of his speech, he focused on the work carried out in the Republic of Tatarstan to restore forests, prevent and identify violations of forest legislation, ensure fire safety in forests and improve the sanitary state of forest plantations.

“At present, the forest cover of the republic is 17.5%. Forests are unevenly distributed. For example, in the Nurlatsky district the forest cover exceeds 40%, and in the Drozhzhanovsky and Chistopolsky districts there are practically no forests, said Ravil Kuzyurov. To increase the forest cover by only 1%, it is necessary to plant new forest plantations on an area of 65 thousand hectares. This takes decades. Nevertheless, we are doing our best to preserve and increase forest resources”.

The minister said that since 2019, a regional project “Preservation of forests in the Republic of Tatarstan” is being implemented within the framework of the federal project “Preservation of forests” of the national project “Ecology”, the main goal of which is to ensure a balance of disposal and reproduction of forests in a ratio of 100%. Also, in the Republic of Tatarstan there are 50 basic forest nurseries, the Forest Seed-Breeding Center of the Republic of Tatarstan operates, where 12 million pieces of planting material with a closed root system are grown annually.

“This year we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the formation of the state forestry management body of the republic and the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Lubyanka Forestry College. This is a long way, a whole era. Today you are convinced that the forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan is a dynamically developing industry. I hope that after some time we will meet with you again and will talk not as a lecturer with the audience, but as colleagues who are doing a common cause for the prosperity of our forests,” the minister concluded.

Then Albrecht Bemmann, a professor at the Technical University of Dresden (Federal Republic of Germany), addressed the participants in the video format. He spoke about training at the St. Petersburg State Forestry University and areas of cooperation with the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan. “I sincerely congratulate you on the International Day of Forests! I wish you all professional success, new victories and achievements,” he said.
