In the Republic of Tatarstan, work is being carried out to care for forest seed-growing objects within the framework of the state assignment for 2021. “The maintenance of permanent forest seed plots and plantations includes the removal of grass, dried branches on trees, unwanted woody vegetation in the aisles, laying and renewal of fire-fighting mineralized belts,” said Timur Galiev, head of the forest reproduction and afforestation department of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan. “The work will be carried out during the entire summer-autumn period”.

According to him, the total area of permanent forest seed plots in the Republic of Tatarstan is 1251 hectares, forest seed plantations - 91 hectares. The main share of these areas is occupied by English oak - 89%, Scots pine - 7%, European spruce - 3%, and Siberian larch - 1%.

“The purpose of creating objects of forest seed production is to provide reforestation works with seeds with improved hereditary properties. From the planting material grown from such seeds, in the future, you can get stronger, more competitive trees, significantly superior to the usual ones in terms of economically valuable traits and properties,” added Timur Galiev.
