The Union for the Conservation of Birds of Russia is implementing the project “Russian Winter 2021-2022” for the study of wintering birds. “It is believed that winter is not the best time for bird watching. Yes, in winter there are not so many bird species as in other seasons of the year, but many of them are getting closer to us, settling in this difficult period not only in the outskirts of settlements but also in multi-storey buildings, the organizers say. “This is a good time to take a closer look at the habits of birds, the peculiarities of the coloring of individual individuals, to listen to their voices and learn, for example, to recognize different species of titmouse or sparrows by voice”
The main platform of the project “Russian Winter 2021-2022” is the platform: https://www.inaturalist.org/, where you can post your observations (photographs and audio recordings), which will then be checked by experts and used in scientific publications.
Last season, 1.2 thousand people from all over the country joined the winter bird watching.
