Residents of Tatarstan can vote for the Russian oak on the website of the competition “European Tree of the Year – 2022”
Today, February 1, voting has started for the European Tree of the Year 2022 contest. The Russian Federation is represented by the famous Turgenev Oak, which was destroyed by Hurricane Benedict. The decision to admit the legendary tree was made by the organizers of the competition.
It is important to cast your vote for the famous oak before February 28 at www.treeoftheyear.org. In total, 16 famous European trees participate in the competition. Each person can only vote once using their personal email address. The voter must choose two candidates and vote for them. In the last week - from February 22 to February 28, voting will become secret, that is, preliminary results will not be available on the website.
Recall that the life of the famous Oryol giant ended on November 30, 2021. There is a legend that Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev himself planted it, and in his farewell letter to his homeland, being mortally ill in France, Turgenev wrote to his friend Polonsky: “When you are in Spassky, bow from me to the house, garden, my young oak, bow to the motherland which I will probably never see again.” Last year, the Russians presented the Turgenev Oak with the title of “Russian Tree of the Year”.
