Forest management planning in Russia will go in a new way

15 February 2022, Tuesday

Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin approved a new procedure for planning forest management work in Russia. The Government Decree was developed as part of the amendments to the Forest Code adopted in 2021.

Now the forest management plan preparation system will include two stages. At the first stage, proposals for the inclusion of certain sections in the plan will be prepared by the regional authorities. At the second stage, based on these proposals, a unified federal forest management plan is formed, designed for 10 years.

The document will specify the terms and territories of the work. In addition, the preparation should consider priority forest investment projects in the territories.

After approval, the forest management plan will be posted on the official website of the Federal Forestry Agency. As a result, the regions and forest users will get a clear picture of the state's plans for the development of forest resources, and the expenditure of budgetary funds for forest management will become more transparent and efficient. The plan is expected to be updated annually.
