Issues of creating a national carbon monitoring system in forests discussed at parliamentary hearings

Today, the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted parliamentary hearings of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management via videoconference “The role of forestry in achieving carbon neutrality in Russia. Legislative support: problems and solutions”.

The event was attended by Deputy Head of the Federal Forestry Agency Alexander Panfilov, Chairman of the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation on Nature Management and Ecology Sergey Alekseev, representatives of forestry authorities, including from the Republic of Tatarstan - First Deputy Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ilgizar Zaripov, heads structural divisions of the Ministry.

During the hearings, issues of creating a national carbon monitoring system in forests, remote sensing of the Earth from space to obtain regular, complete, and reliable estimates of greenhouse gas absorption by forests, international and domestic experience in creating carbon farms and landfills, measures of state support for the development of forestry, etc.
