In the State Budgetary Institution of the Republic of Tatarstan “Bugulminsky forestry” coniferous seeds were laid for stratification. “Stratification is one of the preparatory stages of reforestation, the key to the success of which is correctly selected high-quality seed material, the correct and consistent implementation of all actions,” said reforestation engineer Nurfiya Ibragimova.
Forestry specialists have created their own “microclimate” for the seeds in advance, in which the influence of natural winter conditions on them is simulated so that it is easier for the seeds to germinate, as well as to germinate faster and increase their germination before planting. It is the stratification of seeds, especially those with protective shells, that contributes to their faster awakening, the seeds must go through the state of embryonic sleep, otherwise, they will not sprout.
“We soaked the seeds in snow water and then planted them in snow piles for snowmaking,” Nurfiya Ibragimova added. “In total, 56 kilograms of pine and larch seeds were laid for stratification. After stratification, they will be sown in the basic forest nursery of the Bugulminsky forestry.”
