Timur Galiev, head of the department of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, presented the experience of Tatarstan in the field of reforestation at a meeting with representatives of regional forestry authorities of the Volga Federal District

Today, a meeting was held in the city of Orenburg, at which the results of the spring silvicultural season of 2022 and the implementation of work on “compensatory” reforestation and afforestation were considered. The meeting, which was held via videoconference, was attended by Alexander Ornatsky, Head of the Forestry Department for the Volga Federal District, Alexander Kuzenko, Head of the Forest Reproduction and Protection Department of the Federal Forestry Agency, Vitaly Akberdin, Director of the Russian Forest Protection Center, and representatives of regional forestry authorities of the Volga Federal District, industry institutions, scientific and expert community.

The participants of the meeting discussed the implementation of the federal project “Preservation of Forests” of the national project “Ecology”, ensuring the safety of forest crops, improving the sanitary and forest pathological condition of forests, implementing forest protection measures, carrying out work on “compensatory” reforestation and afforestation, etc.

The experience of the Republic of Tatarstan was presented by Timur Galiev, Head of the Department of Reforestation and Forest Cultivation of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan. He said that this year in Tatarstan, work was carried out on planting forest crops on an area of 1521.1 hectares, including artificial reforestation - on 1412.5 hectares (100% of the plan), afforestation - on 104.6 hectares (100 %), combined reforestation - by 4 ha (100%). “According to the requirements of the reforestation rules, part of the forest plantations was created using planting material with a closed root system. The total area was 300 hectares,” said Timur Galiev. “In total, in 2022, under a federal project, activities will be carried out in the republic for the reproduction of forests on an area of 3,619 hectares.”

Works on protective afforestation on agricultural lands also continued to increase their fertility, and protect against wind and water erosion, the speaker added. In total, protective forest plantations were laid on an area of 1539 hectares, of which 1501 hectares were ravines and ravines, and 38 hectares were field-protective.

“In addition, it is planned to carry out work on laying protective forest plantations to compensate for greenhouse gas emissions as part of the climate and environmental policy on an area of 800 hectares. The customer of these works is the Tatneft company,” Timur Galiev emphasized.

The speaker also dwelled on the issues of “compensatory” reforestation and afforestation in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan. In particular, he said that this year the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, together with the executive authorities, is working to form a reserve of land for such work on agricultural land unsuitable for agricultural activities. It is planned to form a reserve on an area of at least 2,000 hectares.

In 2020 and 2021, “compensatory” reforestation and afforestation were carried out in Tatarstan on an area of 504.5 hectares.

Tomorrow, June 3, the participants of the meeting will assess the results of the work performed on “compensatory” reforestation and afforestation in the territory of the Novosergievsky forestry.
