President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a decree “On measures to reduce the area of forest fires in the Russian Federation”.
“The Government of the Russian Federation, together with the highest officials of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, should ensure that the area of forest fires on the lands of the forest fund in 2022-2030 is reduced by at least 50 percent compared to the level of 2021,” the document says, the text of which is available on the Kremlin’s website.
The Cabinet of Ministers must within a month approve for the regions the targets for the annual reduction in the area of forest fires on the lands of the forest fund, as well as the methodology for calculating such indicators. They should be determined for the period up to 2030.
At the same time, the heads of regions were instructed to ensure the implementation of such indicators. Also, the authorities of the subjects should gradually achieve by 2030 that all forest fires on such lands will be eliminated within the first day from the moment of detection.
