The results of the competition “Russian Tree of the Year – 2022” have been summed up. The winner was, with 19,605 votes, “Shalyapinsky spruce” from the city of Kislovodsk, Stavropol Territory.
The spruce grows on the territory of the Chaliapin's Dacha Literary and Musical Museum, which was built in 1902 by the architect Emmanuil Khodzhaev for the merchant Mikhail Ushakov. In the summer of 1917, the opera singer Fyodor Chaliapin rested here. The tree is listed in the National Register of Old-growth Trees of Russia under No. 284.
The second place was taken by the pine “Pearl of the Tobolsky Forest” from the Tyumen region (8,635 votes), the third place was taken by the “Queen Pine” from the Orenburg region with 7,571 votes.
In total, 60 unique historical natural rarities entered the National Register of Old-growth Trees of Russia and bearing the status of “Monument of Wildlife” took part in the competition this year.
The winner of the “Russian Tree of the Year” competition will represent the Russian Federation at the international competition “European Tree of the Year”.
