Today, the Department of Forestry for the Volga Federal District held a videoconference meeting on the issues of harvesting seeds of the main forest-forming species in 2022-2023. It was held by the Deputy Head of the Department Sergey Kovalev. The meeting was attended by representatives of the forest management bodies of the district, including from the Republic of Tatarstan - First Deputy Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ilgizar Zaripov.
Opening the meeting, Sergey Kovalev said that according to preliminary data, this year in the Volga Federal District it is possible to collect 58 tons of seeds of the main forest-forming species, including 2.8 tons of coniferous species. “At the same time, the need for seeds is 70 tons, of which 8.8 tons are conifers,” he said. “The shortage of oak acorns is observed in the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Saratov region, coniferous seeds - in the Nizhny Novgorod, Ulyanovsk region.”
Further, Vitaly Akberdin, director of the Russian Forest Protection Center, made a detailed report.
Then there was a discussion and exchange of views on the possibilities of harvesting seeds of forest plants.
It should be noted that 1.2 tons of coniferous and hardwood seeds have been collected in the Republic of Tatarstan to date. By the end of the year, it is planned to procure over 11.5 tons of seeds; there is no shortage for the spring of 2023.
After the meeting, a meeting of the headquarters for the coordination of activities to extinguish forest fires in the Volga Federal District was held. Within its framework, issues of monitoring the fire hazard situation, conducting aviation patrols of the forest fund, a set of works on fire-prevention arrangement of forests, etc. were considered.
