The International Day of Forests that was announced by the UN General Assembly only two years ago in 2013, is celebrated today in various countries in order to attract attention to importance of all types of forests to ensure well-being of the world community and sustainable development of our planet.
Various practical and information and educational events of international, regional and national levels are held annually in the framework of the International Day of Forests; political and cultural figures, as well as entrepreneurs and pupils — the widest audience — participate in such events together with forestry experts.
Forest potential is important for preservation of soil fertility and availability of water resources, assurance of biodiversity, and the air state, as well as alleviation of climatic changes. Such functions of forest have direct impact on the quality of life of the world population.
As for Russia, the largest forest country, where the life of every human being is related to forest, the concept of the International Day of Forests has a special and traditionally high meaning. “The All-Russian Day of Knowledge on Forest” will be held this year on the territory of our country in the framework of the International Day of Forests, and Lessons on Forest will be held in many schools of Tatarstan.
