This delicate white flower symbolizes the end of winter and beginning of spring. Only the snowdrop survives in cold weather of early spring. Other plants are not able to repeat that feat.
The International Day of Snowdrop is celebrated annually on April 19. For the first time it was celebrated in 1984 by the British. Hot on the heels the idea was picked up by other countries.
According to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, there are 18 species of snowdrop and two hybrids in the world. In Russia there are 12 of them. Earlier the snowdrops were easily found in the forests of our republic. But now, some species are faced with extinction, and you will be imposed a fine for snowdrop selling.
