In recent days the threatening forest fire environment is continuing to persist abroad. In many parts of the world, it is not yet possible to defeat the fire-related hazard.

Greece

Heat and strong wind are complicating the work of Greek emergency response groups who are unable to extinguish large-scale forest fires. Fire areas are registered in various parts of the country - in the city of Patras, on the Peloponnese Peninsula and in Attica. Aircraft and helicopters are used in fire extinguishing.

For the second day running, rescuers are extinguishing a forest fire in Eastern Attica, not far from the capital of Greece. The fire has come very close to the houses in the Lagonisi and Saronid areas. Previously, the traffic along the coastal road Athens - Sounio was blocked.

The flame is blustering in the south-eastern outskirts only 13 kilometers from the Athens airport. Flights have not been canceled yet, but such a scenario is not excluded. More than 70 fire fighters as well as 30 vehicles and about 5 units of air equipment are fighting fire hazard. Despite the efforts of specialists, flame is quickly developing over the hills due to strong wind.

France

In France, in connection with forest fires on the Cote d'Azur, the residents of the city of Istres are being evacuated in a hurry. Despite the fact that the fires are gaining with renewed vigor, the French authorities assure the population that the situation is under control.

Italy

In Italy, the fire has covered more than 1.5 thousand hectares. The fire was called as one of the largest since the beginning of the century.

This year, firefighters have coped with more than 1000 forest fires in the country. According to the officials, in June and July 2017, there are 30 percent more forest fires than in the previous year.

Temperature in southern Italy reached 40 °C after several months of low precipitation, thus creating ideal conditions for the spread of fires. The Italian government declared an emergency in early July in response to a drought in the northern provinces of Parma and Piacenza.

Algeria

Due to the heat on August 1, forest fires burst into a blaze in the north of Algeria, one person died. Fires destroyed hundreds of hectares of forests. For a day

in the province of Bumerdess, there were six forest fires. As a result, a twenty-year-old young man died, several were injured.

In the province of El-Tarf, more than 20 fires were recorded, over 400 hectares of forest burned down, large numbers of livestock died. In some areas, due to the landscape conditions, firemen cannot enter the forest to extinguish fires. The exact number of dead and injured has not been established yet.

Forest fires in Algeria are caused by strong heat. In some regions of the country the temperature exceeded 42 degrees, and in some places precipitation did not fall for several months.

Montenegro

On the Adriatic coast of Montenegro, forest fires are raging - the spread of fire is developed by heat and strong wind.

Currently, large-scale fires are recorded in Sutomore and on the peninsula of Lustica.

Firefighters involved the military to the fight with the fire. Several hundred people from Sutomore overcrowded with tourists were evacuated when the fire got too close to the buildings. Residential houses were managed to defend against the fire, and people returned back. From the peninsula of Lustica people were taken out by the sea, as the road to Krasici was blocked.

It is noted that the smoke from the fires beclouded Kotor and Tivat. A strong wind contributes to the spread of the flame. Firefighters are waiting for the wind to calm down in order to start extinguishing from the air. Two planes have already been involved to eliminate the fire and two more are expected to arrive.

Cyprus

The fire service of Cyprus said that with the onset of heat in Cyprus, fire cases were increased. Last weekend, 46 incidents of fire were recorded on the island.

As a result, dozens of hectares of vegetation were destroyed, cars were damaged, and in most cases it was possible to stop the fire only with air support. Strong winds are complicating the work of firefighters.

The cause of the fire, according to the representatives of the fire department, in 94% of cases is the human factor.

In this regard, the head of the fire service of Cyprus calls on all residents of the island to comply with fire safety rules and immediately report on the fire setters to the police.

Kazakhstan

The cause of the large fire in the Sairam-Ugam National Park, which was putting out for a whole day, could be negligence of vacationers. The fire occurred on the afternoon of July 30 in the Kyzyl-Zau tract near the Sairam peak.

Firefighting was conducted in severe weather conditions: strong heat and wind did not allow the fire to be eliminated. The fire was extinguished not only by firemen, but also by employees of the National Park and local residents. All materials on hand came into use.

Objectives and methodology for developing a long-term emergency risk forecast in forests

For predictive respond of regional forestry departments and forest fire services, authorities of various levels and involved governmental agencies, the Aerial Forest Fire Center has developed a forecast of fire danger in the forests of Russia for August 2017

This forecast is a unique product, because its development has been carried out on the establishment of cooperation between Roshydromet's weather forecast data and the long-term data of the Aerial Forest Fire Center on the burning of forests. It is important to note that, under equal weather conditions, the fire hazard of different types of forests, such as pine forests and spruce forests, occurs at different rates, which has also been taken into account in the development of the forecast.

The predicted high risk of forest fires does not mean that an emergency will necessarily occur in the region. Everything depends on the population's compliance with fire safety rules, because the human factor is the main cause of forest fires.

Also an important role is given to early detection of fires, for which fire-fighting services carry out ground and aerial monitoring, and also equip forests with video surveillance systems. Fire extinguishing is carried out both manually and with the use of ground and aviation fire-fighting equipment.

Long-term forecast for August 2017

According to the forecast of Federal Aerial Forest Fire Center, an increased probability of emergencies in the forests in August 2017 is expected in the following territories:

Central FD (Federal District) (the southern part of the Kursk region, the southern part of the Voronezh region, throughout the Belgorod region);

Southern FD (the southern part of the Volgograd region, throughout the Rostov region, the Republic of Kalmykia and the Astrakhan region);

North-Caucasian FD (northern and eastern part of the Stavropol Territory, northern part of the Republic of Dagestan);

Privolzhsky (Volga region)FD (eastern districts of the Saratov region, south-east of the Samara region, central and southern parts of the Orenburg region, southern part of the Republic of Bashkortostan);

Ural FD (throughout the Chelyabinsk region, the eastern part of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Disctrict, the eastern part of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District);

Siberian FD (northern and central parts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, including the Evenk Municipal District, northern part of the Irkutsk Region);

The Far Eastern FD (the western part of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the eastern part of the Khabarovsk Territory (Nikolaevsky District), the northern part of the Sakhalin Region, the southern and northeastern parts of the Kamchatka Territory, the southeastern part of the Chukotka Autonomous District).

About the current forest fire situation in Russia.

According to the situation as of July 30 in Russia, 8.1 thousand forest fires have been brought under control. Settlements, suburban associations and economic entities have not suffered from forest fires in the current year. All fires in the settlements of the Irkutsk region, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republic of Buryatia on May 24, 25, on April 27, 28, which caused public outcry, have resulted from dry grass, incineration of garbage, wires short circuits, and violations of fire safety regulations at enterprises.

In 2016, this figure was equal to 1,596 hectares. The foresters noted that in total in 2017 the volume of reforestation increased by 27% compared to the last year. First of all, this is due to the fact that the areas under for the forest crops planting have been increased centrally and under the support of the natural forest renewal.

An improvement cutting presents itself an integral part of the quality reproduction of forests. As of July 1, improvement cutting and salvage cutting were performed in 7,677 hectares. The total stock of harvested timber amounted to almost 380 thousand cubic meters or 69% of the plan (in 2016 - 46%, in 2015 - 67%), merchantable wood of more than 303 thousand cubic meters was harvested, the liquidity fulfillment was 81% (in 2016 it comprised - 48%, in 2015 - 74%).
