The Ministry discussed the results of the implementation of the project “Development of the concept of sustainable forestry in aspen plantations”

Today, the Ministry hosted a videoconference meeting on the implementation of the research project “Development of the concept of sustainable forestry in aspen plantations and their use in the Republic of Tatarstan “ASTAT”.

The discussion was attended by the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ravil Kuzyurov, First Deputy Minister Ilgizar Zaripov, Minister of Regional Development of Saxony (Federal Republic of Germany) Thomas Schmidt, heads of structural divisions of the Ministry, representatives of the branch of FBU “VNIILM” “East European LOS”, GBPOU “Lubyansky Forestry College”, on the part of the Technical University of Dresden: Professors Lucas Giessen, Jurgen Pretsch, Sven Wagner, Albrecht Bemmann, Norbert Weber, Dr. Wolfram Scheiding, Eckhard Auch, Anna Moosmann, Researcher at the Project Management Agency of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany Jessica Rebola Lichtenberg and others.

During the meeting, the results of the implementation of the joint research project “Development of the concept of sustainable forestry in aspen plantations” were considered and tasks for the 2nd half of this year were outlined.

Thus, the main reports at the meeting were made by University professors Jurgen Pretsch, Sven Wagner, Albrecht Bemmann, Dr. Wolfram Scheiding and Eckhard Auch. They dwelt in detail on the developed complexes of forestry measures for growing aspen plantations and caring for them, calculations of the planned annual volume of aspen timber harvesting, its quality, and application possibilities. So, the university proposes the use of aspen wood in the pulp and paper industry, the production of fuel pellets, peat, etc.

The results of the meeting were summed up by the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ravil Kuzyurov and the Minister of Regional Development of Saxony Thomas Schmidt. “Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we were unable to meet in Dresden this year, - noted the head of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Ravil Kuzyurov. - Nevertheless, our cooperation continues, the first results are already visible. Ultimately, we would like to get the most optimal aspen wood processing technology in terms of financial, labor, and time costs.”

The Minister for Regional Development of Saxony Thomas Schmidt expressed the hope that this project will be successfully implemented. “Interaction between the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Technical University of Dresden has been going on since 2013. During this time, two joint research projects “Creation and use of forest plantations” and “Optimization of mixed plantations of pedunculate oak and small-leaved linden” were developed, - he said. - We are confident in the successful development of our business and friendly relations, long-term and fruitful cooperation.”
