The Minister Nail Magdeev held a meeting at the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan on procurement of wood to the sites of the plant “Kastamonu Integrated Wood Industry” from forestries of the Republic.
Heads-foresters and directors of subordinate establishments reported on the course of wood procurement at their establishments and its transportation by the Forest Transportation Company to the site of the plant in Elabuga.
Before the meeting, the deputies familiarized with complex management of the forestland: they visited shops of the wood processing complex, inspected fire and chemical station of the 3rd type “Saba” and greenhouses of the Forest Selection and Seed Center. Further, the “round table” on “Statutory regulation in the field of forest reproduction and forest cultivation: tasks, problems, and prospects” was held in the convention room of the Forest Selection and Seed Center.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Head of the Federal Forestry Agency Vladimir Lebedev, Chairperson of the Committee of the State Duma for Natural Resources, Environmental Management and Ecology Vladimir Kashin, the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Nail Magdeev, as well as representatives of scientific and business community, experts of forestry management and ecology participated in the meeting.
Addressing the deputies, the Minister Nail Magdeev acknowledged that such sparsely forested regions as Tatarstan need legislative support for its economic activity so that all forest management work is done with minimum expenses but maximum benefit for the forest. “That’s why we asked the deputies to discuss these matters here on the spot”, emphasized the Minister.
When summarizing the results of the onsite meeting, Vladimir Kashin acknowledged: “We have to take note that, in general, the forest loss rate in Russia outruns the forest restoration rate. That’s why the matters of forest restoration are very important. At present, forest seedlings are planted only on approximately 10% of the felled area. Meanwhile, half of them don’t survive. Consequently, we need to take forest nurseries seriously along with the issues regarding seed farming and caring for seedlings, and we also need to develop the network of selection centers. It is the only way for us to preserve forest as national wealth of Russia. Tatarstan demonstrated real solution of this problem”.
In 2000, the General Assembly ordered to celebrate the International Day of Biological Diversity annually on May 22nd – on the day of adoption in 1992 of the approved text of the Convention on biological diversity. Today more than 200 countries serve as parties to this Convention.
The main aim of the International Day of Biological Diversity is to draw attention of the public to the problem of permanent extinction of many representatives of flora and fauna on the Earth. Biological diversity of our planet continues to decrease, while ecological balance continues to shift. About 60% of the ecological system degrades or it is used recklessly, which leads to the loss of biological diversity and severe consequences that might worsen within the next 50 years.
Biodiversity of islands is the topic of the day chosen in 2014 by the UN.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Head of the Federal Forestry Agency Vladimir Lebedev, Chairperson of the Committee of the State Duma for Natural Resources, Environmental Management and Ecology, Vladimir Kashin, representatives of scientific and business forestry communities, as well as experts of forestry and ecology will participate in the meeting.
On May 22, the Meeting of the Committee will be held in Saby forestry, and on May 23 participants will familiarize with the facilities located in the special economic zone “Alabuga” in Nizhnekamsk and Almetyevsk municipal districts.
Young participants of the Olympiad at the age of 6-7 years competed in several categories on the territory of nursery No. 2 “Altynchech”: they demonstrated their knowledge on forest and its dwellers, they tried to use herbary to recognize plants growing in fields and forests of their motherland, while playing they also staged various situations that can happen to them in the forest. Children sang songs, danced, recited poems and participated in creative contests.
The Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, Nail Magdeev, participated in the planting that took place at Parkovoe forestry. Demonstrational planting of ball-rooted forestry crops from Forestry Selection and Seed Center of the Republic of Tatarstan in the amount of 500 thousand pieces was arranged in the course of the event.
The seminar is devoted to coordination of the activity of the Council of Europe and the Russian Federation in the framework of the Berne Convention for protection of wild flora and fauna, as well as native habitat. The Emerald project is aimed at detection and protection of natural habitats. Members of the Council of Europe, representatives of such foreign countries as Finland, Norway, Sweden, as well as more than 15 Russian regions including experts of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan participated in the seminar.
The issues regarding the state of nature protection territories of Europe and Russia, current results and further tasks of the project on establishment of the Emerald network in the Russian Federation were covered during the seminar.
Fire and chemical station of the 3rd type “Laishevo”, which is the fifth in the Republic, was opened before the start of the drill. The Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, Nail Magdeev, Head of the Administration of Laishevo municipal district, Mikhail Afanasyev, Head of the Management of the organization for fire safety and performance of rescue and salvage operations of the State Establishment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Tatarstan, Konstantin Chanyshev were also present.
As envisioned by command and staff exercise for liquidation of the consequences of emergency situations, related to forest fires, due to careless fire handling, the fire started with ignition of dry grass spreading to the forestland and to the cottage building co-operative located on the bank of the river Kama. Resources and forces of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, aIn the course of its ordinary visit, the UNIDO delegation including Christian Susan, project leader, Kurt Ramskogler, the international expert, Boris Melnichuk, the national coordinator of UNIDO projects, Alexander Knorre, the national expert, visited Matyushinsky basic nursery of the State Budgetary Establishment “Scientific and Experimental Prigorodny Forestry”, Forest Selection and Seed Center of the Republic of Tatarstan in Saby municipal district, State Public Establishment “Mamadysh Forestry”, sites for afforestation in the coastal area of Mamadysh and Verkhny Uslon municipal districts.
Experts of UNIDO visited the site designated for construction of the Scientific and Production Center “Oak forests of Russia”, genetic wildlife reserve of English oak and little-leaved linden, and familiarized with technologies of planting of oak with open root system at the State Public Establishment “Kaybitsy forestry” and the State Budgetary Establishment “Kaybitsy specialized seed forestry enterprise”.
All in all, 25 pupils responded to the appeal of fellow workers of the nature reserve to support the All-Russian Day of forest planting and beautify the coastal area. Adults and adolescents planted 100 pieces of fir tree and 250 pieces of larch seedlings along the shores of the river Nurminka, affluent of Shoshma.
